A Room To Powder Your Nose

Powder room dates back to the late 1800's, a time when a woman would go in there to touchup her make-up, use the bathroom, or excuse herself when the conversation at the table became too serious. She would say something like "Well, if you'll excuse me a moment, I'm going to powder my nose."

In modern times, the powder room is a half bathroom built somewhere close to the formal living room and is meant for the guests. I think the decor here should reflect your style since there is a huge possibility that your visitors might enter this room. It's a small room and it typically comes with a sink, a mirror, towels, and a toilet. The rest is all up to you -- the sky's the limit when it comes to wall papers, sconces, mirrors, and vanity. I am sharing a few tiny powder rooms that have character..

Decorating a Bachelor Pad

A bachelor's wish list -- a cool, masculine bachelor pad that's super-comfortable and always party ready. And of course, large sofas where one can lounge and rest are integral in relaxing spaces. Sturdy furniture with clean lines or minimal ornate details also appeal to men. I also have a feeling that men like open floor plans where there is more place to move around. And, when it comes to organizing -- book shelves, consoles, and built-in cabinets provide easy access to supplies without adding clutter to the room. Color schemes can be a bit tricky -- neutrals and dark colors might work best. Accessories need not be as purposeful as we women think. I can only imagine how much fun it will be to design such a room..

Finally, I personally like bachelor pads that a woman can appreciate. How about you? Here are a few that I came across to get an idea of what I am talking about here..

Desks For Everyone

A desk and a chair will seamlessly fit in a corner of a room and give you a place to work without distraction. Well, for me work could be something as simple as creating a to-do list, or browsing the internet, or my most favorite activity i.e. blogging. And for all these, I prefer a desk and a chair, although I can get away with doing these anywhere else. How about you? Do you find yourself more focussed when you sit at a desk..? With that said, I've a few ideas to create this workspace in your home..

Cutest Kitchen Accessories

I'm always looking to accessorize my kitchen with vibrant, innovative products that I don't typically see in stores. And, for that, I go to ModCloth.com.  I found the cutest things -- guitar shaped strawberry cutters, boat shaped napkin holders, spatula flowers in vases, cookie jars that brighten up the counter-top, and much more..

Office Bookshelves - Books Inside A Box

Hello everyone! I have expressed my love for Unique Bookshelves and Open Bookshelves. Now it is Boxed Bookshelves! I am partial to this style of shelving simply because it makes organizing super easy. I can visually divide my books into categories and mix them with cute accessories. Just love the fact that these can be built anywhere on the wall - all the up to the ceiling, in a corner, or above my table. You agree with me, right? My selections here might otherwise convince you...

Eat Breakfast Like A King

There's an old saying we should often be reminded of -- Eat breakfast like a king, eat lunch like a prince, and eat dinner like a pauper. To eat like a king every morning, the kitchen needs be stocked with the right food, and be organized in such a way that the selections are readily available.

I'm a huge fan of Target and I found their recent breakfast selections quite impressive. Target busy family isles are filled with Nature Valley products, Nutella's and cereals. That's exactly what my family like and what energies us in the mornings. Check them out. I also have a few ideas on how to store breakfast items in your kitchen.

Picnic Style Dining Tables

I'm so used to seeing a dining table surrounded by chairs. And that's what we have at our home too. Now, I wish I could create a more casual ambiance in my not so formal dining room. I like the way these benches open up the room creating an inviting space to eat. At the same time, wondering if the seating might not be so comfortable. Well, I just love the way these dining rooms are put together and thought you might like them too. Just another furniture style to think about.. a picnic style!
